The short comparison
| What matters | Walk-in shower | Walk-in tub |
|---|---|---|
| Getting in | Flush or very low entry | A door, but still a step to clear |
| Walker or wheelchair | Rolls straight in when built curbless | You have to transfer onto the seat |
| Waiting | None. Turn it on and wash | You sit inside while it fills and again while it drains |
| Help from a caregiver | Open space, easy to reach in | Tight, high walls in the way |
| Soaking | No | Yes |
Why we recommend the shower for most people
The goal is fewer risky moves. A curbless or low-threshold shower takes away the step, gives you a bench to sit on and puts grab bars where your hand naturally goes. You are never locked in waiting for water to drain, and you are never sitting wet and cold while it does.
It also keeps working as your needs change. A shower you walk into today is one you can use with a walker later, and a caregiver can help without climbing over anything. In the 55+ communities around the Valley, a walk-in shower is also what the next buyer expects to see.
When a walk-in tub makes sense
Some people get real comfort from soaking, and a regular tub is no longer safe for them. If that is you, a walk-in tub can be the right answer. Go in with open eyes:
- The door must stay closed until the water is gone, so plan on sitting through the fill and the drain.
- It holds more water than a standard tub. Ask whether your water heater can keep up.
- It is a product for one kind of user. It does not suit everyone in the house, and it is harder to sell later.
We build showers, not walk-in tubs, so we have no tub to sell you. If soaking is the priority, tell us and we will say so plainly.
