Bathroom Remodel Cost in Phoenix (2026): Real Numbers

Most Phoenix bathroom remodels land between $8,000 and $60,000. Here is where your project falls, what moves the number, and how to read a quote so nobody pads it.

By the Desert Skies Contracting team · Updated October 2026 · Phoenix, AZ

Most Phoenix bathroom remodels cost $4,500 to $95,000 in 2026: a vanity-and-tile refresh runs $4,500–$12,000, a tub-to-shower conversion $7,900–$16,500, a walk-in shower $9,800–$24,000, a full remodel $18,500–$60,000 and a primary suite $32,000–$95,000. Tile grade, frameless glass and whether plumbing moves are what move the number. This guide is written by Desert Skies Contracting, a Phoenix bathroom remodeler licensed under ROC #345756, serving 28 Valley cities; the prices quoted are the ranges we write on contracts. The short version

Phoenix is a mid-cost market for bathroom work. Labor runs lower than California, materials cost the same as everywhere, and permits through Maricopa or Pinal County are cheap. The spread you see in quotes comes from three things: how much tile you choose, whether the glass is frameless, and whether any plumbing moves. Everything else is detail.

ProjectTypical Phoenix rangeDays on site
Vanity, tile and refresh$4,500–$12,0002–4
Tub-to-shower conversion$7,900–$16,5003–5
Walk-in shower remodel$9,800–$24,0004–6
Accessible / aging-in-place bath$9,500–$28,0004–7
Full bathroom remodel$18,500–$60,00010–15
Primary bathroom suite$32,000–$95,00015–20

Those ranges are what we actually write on contracts, not marketing floors. A quote well under the bottom of a range is either missing scope or is a “starting at” number that will grow on site.

What moves the price

1. Tile choice (the biggest lever)

A 12×24 porcelain at $3 a square foot and a book-matched marble slab at $45 a square foot both make a shower. On a typical 90-square-foot shower surround the material difference alone is $3,800, and the labor to set large-format or natural stone runs 30–50% higher because of the cutting, leveling and sealing. Most Phoenix homeowners land on porcelain that looks like stone: it laughs at our hard water and never needs sealing.

2. Glass

A framed sliding door runs $700–$1,200 installed. A frameless 3/8-inch panel and door with a custom header is $1,800–$3,500. Frameless is what you see in every photo you like, and it is worth it on a shower you will use for twenty years. On a guest bath, framed or a fixed panel with no door is the smart money.

3. Moving plumbing

Keeping the drain, valve and toilet where they are is free. Moving a shower drain 3 feet on a slab means saw-cutting concrete, rerouting the line, and patching: $1,500–$3,500 depending on distance and whether your slab is post-tension (see our curbless shower guide before anyone cuts anything). Moving a toilet is similar. Moving a wall to steal closet space adds framing, electrical and drywall: $2,500–$6,000.

4. Permits and code

Maricopa County and most Valley cities require a permit when plumbing or electrical changes. Fees are modest ($150–$600) and inspections add a few days of scheduling. Any contractor telling you a permit is “not needed” for a plumbing move is asking you to carry the risk at resale.

5. The surprises behind the wall

Homes built in the 1970s–90s across Phoenix, Mesa, Glendale and Tempe often hide galvanized supply lines, rotted subfloor from a slow leak, or a shower pan that was never waterproofed. We budget a contingency of 5–8% and tell you before we spend a dollar of it. A fixed-price contract should say exactly how hidden conditions are handled.

Tier A vs. Tier B neighborhoods: the honest difference

The same tub-to-shower conversion costs the same in Maryvale as in Arcadia. What changes is what people choose. In Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Arcadia and Gilbert’s newer subdivisions, most clients pick frameless glass, large-format porcelain or stone, niche and bench, and a rain head plus handheld, so projects cluster at the top of each range. In Mesa, Glendale, Surprise and the West Valley, most clients want the tub gone, a clean tiled or premium-acrylic shower, and a door that closes, and they want it done in a week. Both are right. Pick the version that matches how long you will live in the house.

What this means for you: decide your “forever or five years” answer before you shop tile. A five-year house gets porcelain and a framed door and comes in $6,000 lighter. A forever house gets the glass and the bench.

How to compare two quotes

Line the quotes up and check these seven items. If one quote is missing any of them, add it back in before comparing prices.

  1. Demo and haul-away, including dumpster or trailer fees.
  2. Waterproofing system named (Schluter, Wedi, Laticrete HydroBan or similar). “Cement board and a liner” is 1995.
  3. Tile allowance per square foot, and what happens if you pick above it.
  4. Glass spec: framed, semi-frameless or frameless, thickness, and who measures after tile.
  5. Plumbing fixtures included, with model numbers or an allowance.
  6. Permit and inspection included or excluded.
  7. Schedule in writing: start date, days on site, and what happens if they miss it.

Red flags

  • A price given over the phone or from photos. Nobody can price a shower they have not measured.
  • “Today only” discounts. Materials and labor cost the same tomorrow.
  • No ROC license number on the estimate. Arizona requires it on every ad and bid.
  • A deposit over 30% before work starts.

Where the money goes on a typical $16,000 walk-in shower

Labor (demo, waterproofing, tile, plumbing, glass install)45%$7,200

If a quote shows 30% overhead, you are paying for a showroom. If it shows none, the contractor is either guessing or planning to make it up in change orders.

Questions people ask

What is the cheapest way to update a bathroom in Phoenix?

A vanity, floor tile, lighting and paint refresh. It runs $4,500 to $12,000, takes 2–4 days, and photographs like a remodel.

Why do Phoenix quotes vary by $10,000 for the same shower?

Tile grade, frameless vs. framed glass, and whether plumbing moves. Ask each contractor to price the same spec and the gap usually closes to 10–15%.

Do I need a permit for a tub-to-shower conversion?

If the drain and valve stay where they are, usually no. If plumbing moves or electrical is added, yes. We pull it and include the fee.

How long does a full bathroom remodel take in Phoenix?

Ten to fifteen working days on site once materials are in hand. Glass is measured after tile and installed about a week later.

Is a fixed price really fixed?

Yes, when the contract names the scope, the allowances and how hidden conditions are handled. Ours does. A fixed price with vague scope is not fixed.
