What decides your price

Two Florence accessible bathrooms rarely cost the same.

  • A curbless shower, which depends on the slab
  • A built-in or fold-down seat and a hand shower
  • How many grab bars, and where
  • A comfort-height toilet and the door width
  • Slip-resistant floor tile

At the free visit we measure, go through each of these with you, and the written price says what you chose.

Florence homes

What a accessible bathroom in Florence usually involves.

Florence holds two very different kinds of housing: the Del Webb homes of Sun City Anthem at Merrill Ranch, built from 2006 on along Hunt Highway, and the adobe and brick houses of one of Arizona's oldest towns.

Curbed showers in Del Webb plans

Sun City Anthem homes were designed for retirees, yet many showers still have a curb and a glass door with a narrow opening. As owners age, that curb becomes the problem. Rebuilding the shower floor for a low or curbless entry, with a bench and a handheld sprayer, is the most common request in these homes.

Blocking, seats and toilet height

Grab-bar backing and comfort-height toilets were options, not standard, in many production homes of this period. If they were not chosen at purchase, the walls have nothing solid behind the tile. A remodel adds wood blocking at every useful height, a taller toilet and a shower seat.

Where we work in Florence

  • Sun City Anthem at Merrill Ranch Del Webb's 55+ community, building since 2006 and planned for about 3,800 homes.
  • Anthem Parkside The all-ages side of Anthem at Merrill Ranch, with production homes from the mid-2000s on and its own association and architectural review.
  • Florence Historic District The original townsite near Main Street, with adobe and brick homes from the late 1800s through the mid-1900s.

The Town of Florence issues permits. Both Anthem at Merrill Ranch and the historic townsite are inside the Town of Florence, so building permits come from the town's Community Development and Building Safety staff, not from Pinal County, even though the county offices are also in Florence.

Florence questions

Straight answers.

What does a accessible & aging-in-place bath cost in Florence?

Usually $10K–$28K in Florence. The size of the room, the tile, the glass and any plumbing that moves make the difference. After a free in-home visit you get one fixed price in writing within 48 hours, with the warranty on all labor.

How long does it take?

Plan on 4–7 days on site. You get the schedule in writing with the price, before work starts.

My Sun City Anthem home already has a walk-in shower. Can it be made safer?

Yes. The usual changes are removing or lowering the curb, widening the entry, adding a built-in or fold-down seat, a handheld sprayer on a slide bar and grab bars on solid backing. Slip-resistant floor tile and a pressure-balancing valve help as well. Often the shower footprint stays the same and only the floor and walls are rebuilt.

What is different about remodeling a bathroom in a historic Florence home?

Expect older plumbing, floors that are not level and thick masonry walls. Drain lines may be cast iron or clay and often need replacing where they are exposed. Adobe walls should stay dry, so new wet walls are usually framed inside them. If the work touches the outside of the house, the town's historic design review applies.

How wide should the bathroom door be?

As a general guide, a clear opening of about thirty-two inches lets most wheelchairs pass, and thirty-six-inch doors are more comfortable. Many older Valley homes have bathroom doors narrower than that. Widening involves reframing, new drywall and trim, and sometimes moving a light switch. A pocket door or offset hinges can gain clearance where the wall cannot be opened further.

Does a curbless shower flood the bathroom?

No, not when it is sloped and sized correctly. The shower floor falls away from the entry toward the drain, and the waterproofing continues under the adjacent bathroom floor as a backup. A linear drain moves water quickly. Aiming the head away from the opening and using a handheld while seated keeps spray contained. A curtain or panel adds a further margin.
