What is the best time of year to remodel a bathroom in Phoenix?

Any time of year works, because a bathroom remodel is indoor work in an air-conditioned house. The best time is whenever you can live without that bathroom for a few days. Many Phoenix homeowners choose summer while they travel, or early fall so the work is finished before winter guests and the holidays.

Why the season matters less here

In colder parts of the country, weather decides the schedule. Here it rarely does. The work happens inside your home with the air conditioning on, so tile, waterproofing and paint go in under the same conditions in July as in January. We do not change our methods or our warranty by season.

The heat does affect the crew. In summer we start early, keep materials out of the sun and stage our tools in the shade or the garage. None of that changes what you get. It only changes what time the truck pulls up.

What each season is like

SummerHomeowners who travel or spend summers awaySomeone needs to let the crew in and answer questions by phone

WinterWinter residents who are in town to make choices in personGuests and holidays can make a bathroom hard to give up

What really sets the schedule

  • Your calendar. Pick a week with no house guests and no medical procedures planned.
  • How many bathrooms you have. With a second bathroom, timing hardly matters. With one, plan where you will shower for a few days.
  • Materials. Frameless glass is measured after the tile is up and installed about a week later. Special-order tile and vanities need lead time.
  • Permits. When plumbing or electrical changes, a permit is needed. We pull it, and it is part of the schedule.
