What Changes the Price
The biggest cost drivers are the same on almost every job we bid:
- Tile - large-format tile installs faster and costs less in labor than small mosaic or handmade tile, even if the material price is similar.
- Glass - a framed panel costs less than a frameless enclosure with heavy glass and custom hardware.
- Plumbing moves - keeping the shower valve and drain where they are keeps cost down. Relocating them means opening walls or the floor.
- Pan type - a prefab base costs less than a custom mortar-bed pan with a linear drain.
- Water damage - if we open the wall and find rot or mold behind old tile, that repair gets added once we see it.
Walk-In Shower vs. Tub-to-Shower Conversion
These are priced differently because the work is different:
| Project | Typical Timeline | Price Range |
|---|---|---|
| Walk-In Shower Remodel | 4-6 days | $9,800-$24,000 |
| Tub-to-Shower Conversion | 3-5 days | $7,900-$16,500 |
A conversion often costs less because the footprint and plumbing rough-in already exist. A walk-in remodel from scratch, or one that changes the shower's footprint, involves more framing and waterproofing.
About 'One-Day' Shower Remodels
You may have seen ads for one-day shower installs. Those are acrylic liner systems installed over your existing shower pan and walls. They go in fast because there is no demolition, no tile, and no waterproofing membrane work - the liner is the finished surface. That speed comes with tradeoffs: you cannot change the layout, fix damage behind the old surround, or get a tiled look. A real remodel with tile, a new pan, and proper waterproofing takes days, not hours, because each step needs to cure or set before the next one starts.
Getting an Accurate Number for Your Bathroom
A phone quote is always a guess. To give you a real number we need to see the room, check what's behind the existing tile, and hear what finishes you want. We measure, ask about your plumbing layout, and look for signs of water damage before we write a price. That walkthrough is what turns a wide range into a firm quote.
